Safe Environment

Who is required to complete the safe environment compliance process?

All volunteers who could have unaccompanied contact with minors at any time.
All ushers are the eyes and ears of the BLD Newark Community, and to protect children, they must have continuous awareness and vigilance.

safe environment procedure

These steps must be done before a new volunteer may start:
  1. The volunteer completes a Volunteer Application and reads the Code of Conduct and signs the Acknowledgement of Receipt.
  2. The LSEC will run a background check in Sterling Volunteers.
  3. A volunteer is accepted pending the outcome of their background check.
  4. Once the background check has cleared, LSEC sends the background check letter to the individual.  Background checks are valid for 5 years.
  5. The new volunteer has 30 days from the day that they start to attend a Protecting God's Children (PGC) live class and provide their certificate to the LSEC.  LSEC will verify that the PGC certificate is approved in Virtus.  PGC certificates are valid for 5 years.
