Mission Statement:
"Restoring the Family in Christ"
"To liberate the family from the forces that work against life, love and unity" is our community's primary mission. One way this is accomplished is through the BLD encounter programs, foremost among which is the Marriage Encounter. It is through the encounter that Christ first restores couples and then their families afterwards.
Current Activities & Programs:
The task of implementing the community objective of restoring and strengthening the family in Christ, through the programs of encounter and process of renewal, is delegated to the Marriage Life Apostolate (MLA) of the BLD covenant community. The MLA oversees the whole marriage encounter process from the start of preparations until the end of the actual weekend.
Although the community holds only (2) marriage encounter weekends during the year, extensive planning and coordination are needed in order to prepare for a successful weekend:
Venues must be secured and reserved months and oftentimes even years in advance.
Candidates must be recruited and their applications processed.
The Sponsoring Class must be guided and assisted to ensure compliance with the program guidelines and instructions as detailed in the community's ME operating manual.
The work of the MLA, however, does not end at the close of the encounter weekend. As one encounter ends, preparations for the next one begins. In addition, since the community has recently discerned a more focused approach towards Pastoral Care, the MLA has been asked to develop and prepare plans and topics covering couple and family-related issues which would be disseminated and taught at the extended ME class reunions.
The MLA membership consists of four couples. In addition to the regular Living Word Groups (LWG) and Word-Sharing Circles (WSC), we try to meet at least once a month in order to further discern the direction of the ministry and also to minister to one another through witnessing and sharing of God's Word. The MLA is under the direct supervision and pastoral guidance of the District Steward in charge of Evangelization.
As other couples learn to make Jesus the center of their marriage, we, at the MLA, endeavor to follow the message of our beloved Pope John Paul II as he reminds us: "It is not enough to discover Christ, you must bring Him to others."
